Brief: Working in a team of two, create an eight page, experimental comic in response to the nursery rhyme Humpty Dumpty.
Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall, Humpty Dumpty had a great fall; All the king's horses and all the king's men Couldn't put Humpty together again.
In response to this brief, my partner and I brainstormed different ways that we could interpret the rhyme by first researching the history of the rhyme and the context in which the rhyme was created. We collected images that inspired us and created small research drawings in response to that research. Below is my response to this beginning research and is also based off of two diverging stories my partner and I agreed upon.
After this research work and a day of discussion, we finally developed an interpretation of the Humpty Dumpty rhyme that we would turn into a comic. A successful podcaster that is self-important and selfish. After being filmed on CCTV swatting a homeless man's cup away, his career and life falls apart, ending with him as a shop clerk. To split up the workload my partner would create the cover/backcover and digitally colour, I would digitally ink the comic.
