Sketchbook

Brief:
Observational Drawing

We were tasked to create a drawing of objects from memory quickly at A3 scale and then to go away and draw these objects  observationally at A5 scale with more time.
I experimented with different media including,  liner pens, coloured pencils, alcoholic markers and watercolour paints.

The results below alternatively switch between the quick drawing and the observational drawing.

Not every drawing works out, this one didn't, bit more time on the pencil stage might of helped this.

Reportage Illustration is a form of observational drawing that I have some experience with. I keep a small black sketchbook to document my travels by drawing what I see around me. Often this is in transit but sometimes I will take the time to sit and draw in the moment.

I feel my observational drawing skills have improved thanks to keeping this little book and this drawing module.

Below is observational drawings from a student social event in May and to the left is drawings from November, drawn during my trip to Thought Bubble.
The improvements are clear!
